Engineering Manager, Chrome Operating System, Kernel

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience with Linux kernel development, and software and hardware architecture.
  • 5 years of experience managing other software engineers.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
  • Experience in Linux and other open-source community contributions and upstream.
  • Experience in debugging and troubleshooting skills in domains of Linux Kernel or Userspace.

About the job

As an Engineering Manager on the ChromeOS kernel team, you will lead a team of experienced kernel engineers working to improve stability, maintainability and performance in the ChromeOS and upstream Linux kernels. You will collaborate with other kernel teams and leads on roadmaps, solutions and shared goals. This is an opportunity to make an impact within ChromeOS, across the broader org, and in the Linux community upstream by fixing problems and building solutions that make it easier to do so.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers working on all aspects of the Linux kernel for ChromeOS devices.
  • Design and implement innovative solutions to improve quality and stability of the kernel.
  • Partner with other teams in their use of specific kernel features (e.g. tool development for said features)
  • Develop new technologies to optimize and debug kernel and the system as a whole.
  • Collaborate with and support other kernel teams at Google, and with the upstream community to develop universal and upstreamable solutions.
