Principal Engineer, Gmail, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in software engineering, building and working with systems in the technology organization.
  • Experience in technical leadership and setting technical direction for engineering projects.
  • Experience as a technical leader and with technical innovation.
  • Experience influencing multiple teams of engineers concurrently while partnering across the organization on development initiatives.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science.
  • Understanding of enterprise workloads.
  • Ability to create a compelling roadmap for the future, communicate clearly, and have a collaborative leadership approach.
  • Ability to take an entrepreneurial and strategic approach and work within technology and business functions to drive business goals and growth.
  • Passion for providing an excellent enterprise customer experience.

As a Principal Engineer, Gmail, you will be contribute to Gmail’s most challenging and deepest technical projects, as well as some of our most ambiguous and externally visible product decisions by repeatedly and consistently demonstrating not only technical problem-solving and judgment while creating permanent change in the technical vision and in the scalability, simplicity, and future-proofing of Google’s products and systems.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading, engaging, inspiring and collaborating superbly with others, as well as provide key technical roadmaps. You will work in tandem with the senior leaders in the Communications and Time Management (CTM) organization and Workspace to define and execute technical strategy and arbitrate technical processes. You'll be a trusted decider for technical decisions, leverage the best of common infrastructure across Google, and work with peers to convince partner teams of the technology that is lacking today. You will influence not just the technology roadmap but advocate for a simpler, faster, better set of systems and execute on that.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $294,000-$414,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide key technical roadmaps and organizational judgment to support the product.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders in the Communications and Time Management (CTM) organization and Google Workspace to define and execute technical strategy and arbitrate technical processes.
  • Leverage common infrastructure across Google and advocate with peers to convince partner teams.
  • Influence the technology roadmap while advocating for and executing on improving scalability and simplicity of systems.
