Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of experience within Networking.
- Experience with different forecasting techniques (e.g., regression, time series analysis).
- Experience in telecommunications at carrier-class scale, with experience of optical networks, DWDM, IP, and data services.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience defining system or process requirements, building, integrating, or delivering large-scale layer 1, layer 2, or layer 3 network systems.

Google’s Global Network and Infrastructure (GGN&I) is a system of high-capacity fiber optic cables that encircle the globe, under land and sea, connecting data centers to each other and to users. We secure the energy, land, and water needed for the network, in addition to the experts who design, develop, build, and operate this network. Planning and Design’s mission is to optimize and orchestrate Google’s network plan to meet customer requirements simply and quickly.
As Director of Network Planning and Design, you will drive the team responsible for architecting the infrastructure and capacity plans that underpin Google's extensive global network. This role encompasses the full spectrum of planning and publishing the final network designs.
As a leader, you will be instrumental in redefining how Google accommodates unpredictable fluctuations in demand and the evolving landscape of customer needs. You will lead operations programs designed to enable Google to scale in a cost-effective and dependable manner.
In this role, you will participate in cross-functional collaboration, partnering with teams across the Alphabet umbrella, including various product areas within and beyond Google Cloud. By understanding the unique network requirements of these diverse teams, you will ensure that the developed plans meet their needs efficiently and reliably.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $253,000-$363,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Lead a team who are collectively responsible for the generation of all infrastructure and capacity plans and designs for Google’s global production network.
- Produce plans that maximize demand admission within product SLO, in line with established standards and minimizing TCO. Produce designs for all active devices participating in the Production Network.
- Produce material forecasts for all networking gear required for Google’s production network. Ensure the forecast is accurate and produced on time.
- Drive the automation roadmap of all automatable tasks performed by the team, substantially reducing cycle time and improving quality and consistency. Define the outlook, strategy, and goals for the team, in alignment with their partners. Guide them throughout their execution.
- Define and instrument key business metrics for the team, continuously analyze them to derive insights and improvements initiatives.
