Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a hardware technical environment.
  • Experience with design, testing and validation of electronics or embedded systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of FPGA development and experience working with FPGA designers.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: Camera image sensors and their integration, Lidar sensors, global navigation satellite system.

Join a cross-disciplinary team, providing a range of engineering skills in the development of multi-sensor collection systems.
In this role, you will work with internal and external teams to define system requirements, design image capture and embedded systems boards to collect and store data, create detailed theory of operations and decision documents, and verification plans. You will interact with product and program management, manufacturing, and product life-cycle Management teams to define and implement design requirements and communicate the consequences of design decisions leads the team. You will participate in the validation and production test process ensures that critical performance metrics continue to be met all the way through the final artifact in the field.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, bring-up and validation of embedded systems hardware used which captures sensor data for Google Maps. Create, review and approve hardware designs (e.g., block diagrams, schematics, layouts, algorithms, protocols, link budgets).
  • Evaluate hardware design feasibility based on product requirements.
  • Work cross functionally with internal software and firmware teams, as well as external partners.
  • Apply standard procedures to improve constrained hardware components to meet performance, power, and cost-effectiveness requirements.
  • Drive efforts for the documentation of the hardware design, its implementation, or test/validation results throughout the product life cycle.
