Senior Software Engineer, iOS, Gemini App Input, DeepMind

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience programming in Objective-C or Swift.
  • 3 years of experience with iOS application development.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience building beautiful and intuitive mobile interfaces with a focus on "high-craft" user experiences and sophisticated UI behaviors.
  • Experience executing live experiments (A/B testing) and using performance or crash data to optimize user journeys.
  • Familiarity with or a strong interest in integrating AI/ML capabilities (like LLMs) into mobile applications.
  • Ability to own an end-to-end technical roadmap, set direction for a small team, and mentor engineers.
  • Ability to partner with Product Managers and UX Designers to define and implement core product features.

About the job

As a part of the Gemini App Input team, you will serve as the primary gateway to the Gemini ecosystem. Your mission is to establish a new, high bar for user experience by creating simple, intuitive, and high-craft interfaces across Web, Android, and iOS, as the "front door" to Gemini, we own the core interaction model, from the initial input experience to sophisticated model orchestration via the model picker and thinking levels.

In this role, you will be responsible for integrating Gemini’s most powerful and popular capabilities directly into the user’s workflow, including managing feature gates for multimodal experiences like Image Generation and Video Generation (Veo), as well as deep research tools. You will drive essential cross-product synergy, building seamless integrations with NotebookLM, Workspace, and other key services to ensure Gemini is a helpful and beautiful partner in every user journey.Artificial intelligence will be one humanity’s most transformative inventions. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a beautiful, high-craft input experience for the Gemini App on iOS, implementing sophisticated features like progressive disclosure, tool attachments, and the new "Add" menu.
  • Own end-to-end implementation of the iOS input plate, defining both the architecture and technical roadmap for a seamless mobile user journey.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and UX Designers to translate the new design goal into intuitive mobile behaviors, acting as the primary technical point of contact for the GeminiApp Core experience.
  • Design and execute live experiments to optimize user journeys, while proactively monitoring crash data and performance metrics to ensure a rock-solid mobile experience.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to use Google's latest AI/ML capabilities to enhance the application's responsiveness and overall helpfulness.
