Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience working on technology policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, law, or relevant industry associations.
  • 10 years of experience working in public affairs, political communications, or political campaigns, or within government.
  • Experience working on public policy issues in multiple APAC markets.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience advising and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to design and deliver an exceptional work product.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging public policy trends relating to online content platforms and digital media.
  • Ability to exercise decision-making in a fluid environment.
  • Ability to operate proactively in a fluid environment and a strong track record of executing cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent investigative skills, including in assessing and negotiating regulatory or legislative proposals and texts.

About the job

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

In this role, you will support the company’s public policy professionals globally. As part of a closely coordinated global team, you will impact initiatives important to YouTube's mission.

You will help shape YouTube's policy efforts and coordinate with YouTube’s Product, Business, Trust and Safety, Marketing, Communications, and Legal teams as well as Google’s global Government Affairs and Public Policy team to execute YouTube’s policy strategy, develop our external narrative around key policy tests, and advise product and business teams through the public policy lens.

You will work on critical plans, initiatives, and strategy, while tracking various regulatory proposals and analyzing the potential impact on YouTube’s business and product equities. Helping shape YouTube's policy efforts in APAC and globally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and take ownership of the definition of policy positions through a cross-functional approach, design and implement advocacy campaigns and strategies on complex and tactical issues with guidance.
  • Lead the analysis of and negotiating positions on regulatory or legislative proposals related to policy issues that impact YouTube’s product and business equities. 
  • Advise product and business teams on the public policy implications of initiatives during the product development and launch process.
  • Develop solutions for government affairs and policy problems that may be ambiguous or lacking clear precedent.
  • Lead and influence cross-functional teams, acting as a critical contributor who understands motivations and personalities of key stakeholders and uses this to shape the approach, without losing sight of Google’s equities and policy positions.
