Senior Network Engineer, Optical Design

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience with one or more optical technologies such as client transceivers, optical metro, long-haul DWDM systems, or submarine systems.
  • Experience with planning and designing networks (e.g., multiple sites, multiple products, etc.).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience defining system and/or process requirements, building, integrating, and/or delivering large-scale layer 1, layer 2 and/or layer 3 network systems.
  • Understanding of the technical and process challenges associated with optical network planning.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and financial skills (e.g., business/ project budget creation and cost-benefit analysis).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in an ambiguous and deliver outstanding results in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Produce designs to meet all optical infrastructure and capacity plans for Google’s global core production network. 
  • Provide subject matter expertise throughout the NPI lifecycle. Incorporate newly NPI’d solutions into plans and designs. Ensure plan and design toolsets and business processes are ready for intaking NPIs.
  • Drive the automation roadmap of all automatable tasks performed by the team, substantially reducing cycle time and improving quality and consistency.
  • Evolve the business processes governing the generation of designs, throughout their lifecycle (input gathering, generation, validation, publication, handoff), specifically including the definition of the business policies that govern them (architectural/topology, hardware lifecycle, capacity/utilization target).
