Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or other relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 20 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience with thought leadership, identifying and designing problems commensurate with Distinguished Engineer scope and difficulty.
  • Experience with Ads and technical innovation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering is strongly desired.
  • Experience mentoring engineering leaders and bridging teams to drive efficiencies.
  • Experience with technical and product innovation supporting a cross-functional engineering environment.
  • Technically proficient, with the ability to understand all of the areas within Ads Privacy and Safety including Ads Spam and privacy- and safety-related issues within advertising.
  • Understanding of key privacy concepts that impact an Ads business.
  • Ability to balance detailed, technical guidance with “big picture” strategy and enabling teams to deliver products that are effective.

About the job

Ads Privacy and Safety (APaS) is responsible for a set of programs that make Google Ads the safest platform for billions of users and millions of advertisers and publishers, all while raising the bar on user privacy. In this role, the technology you build will ensure that every ad Google shows meets our policies, every user interaction is authentic, and every product strategy ensures user Privacy.

As a member of the APaS team, you will work to bring clarity to the complexity of the regulatory landscape while enabling the care we take to prevent harm to our users and ensure the safety of the Ads ecosystem. As a member of the overall Google Ads team, you will be exposed to a diversity of business, product, technical, and organizational challenges as well.

As a Distinguished Engineer, you will drive innovation across Ads Privacy and Safety. You will collaborate with many internal stakeholders across all our Ads teams – Ads Analytics, Insights and Measurement, Ads Buying Platform, YouTube Ads, Search Ads, and Owned and Operated Ads. Further, the role will often require frequent collaboration and influence across other parts of Google beyond Ads, like DeepMind, Search, Maps, and more.

We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work across a large and diverse organization that will provide an opportunity to partner closely with leads across the Ads ecosystem to build and drive technical and product consensus.
  • Stay up-to-date with regulation and technical changes that impact the Ads business at Google. 
  • Partner with and influence with key stakeholders to drive proposed technical changes through authoring next-level designs.
  • Help create and review technical road maps and establishment of robust core execution teams. 
  • Provide technical strategy, mentorship, and guidance to teams establishing metrics and success indicators.
