Senior Staff Designer, Search UX Foundations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in product design or user experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience using UX design to influence strategic decision making, communicate strategic concepts, facilitate understanding, shape product strategy, and motivate teams.
  • Knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, usability, prototyping, and content strategy.
  • Ability to focus on detailed aspects of motion and experiences related to physics, patterns, and visual design elements, and to use motion to express sentimental or emotional experiences.
  • Ability to drive impact across multiple cross-product initiatives with a group of stakeholders.
  • Ability to drive key product innovations.

About the job

As Senior Staff Designer for Core Search, you will help design and scale the foundational Search experience across Google. By driving strategic alignment with vertical teams, you will establish a cohesive design approach that scales to horizontal experiences. You will partner with vertical teams to understand their needs, power their use cases, and co-create frameworks that revolutionize Search.

User experience is at the forefront of how we create intuitive, innovative, and beautiful products that people love. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $214,000-$305,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Partner with design system and vertical teams to ensure scalability and consistency across Google.
  • Align cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, Engineering, etc.) on cohesive, scalable design strategies, and collaborate to power use cases, create foundational frameworks, and drive adoption across the organization.
  • Lead initiatives to gather feedback, foster innovation, and refine core frameworks, ensure successful implementation in vertical teams and continuous improvement across Google.
  • Set the standard and foster a culture for design practices and inspire and motivate the organization.
  • Influence senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to enable long-term business success and product excellence.
