Validation Engineering Manager, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of technical experience with enterprise hardware, with experience in software/hardware testing tools.
  • 8 years of experience in Test Design, Test Planning, and Test Methodologies in scripting and automating various test plans.
  • 8 years of experience leading a team.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in working cross-functionally across multiple domains and products.
  • Experience in driving product verification and validation testing across multiple product lines.
  • Experience with strategic leadership.
  • Ability to build core interest and curiosity in discovery of systemic issues and relevant debugging.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automating various test plans.

About the job

Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $162,000-$240,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of individuals; set and communicate individual and team priorities that support organizational goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Develop and implement test methodologies and tools to improve product quality, testing efficiency, and validation processes across the organization.
  • Qualify servers, storage devices, and specialized machine learning hardware for Google’s data centers.
  • Conduct audits of validation or performance qualification processes to ensure compliance with internal or regulatory requirements.
  • Support effective testing and product improvement by adapting and implementing critical tests developed by executive test engineers.
