Senior Strategist, Kids and Learning Trust and Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative data.
  • 2 years of experience managing projects and defining project scope, goals, and deliverables.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field.
  • 2 years of experience with one or more of the following languages: SQL, R, Python, or C++.
  • 2 years of experience with machine learning systems.
  • Experience in working with abuse, spam, fraud or malware.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.

Trust and Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. And you take pride in knowing that every day you are working hard to promote trust in Google and ensuring the highest levels of user safety.

In this role, you will partner with product teams to deliver trusted and helpful Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) experiences with velocity for our youngest users with a specific focus on education. You will support the launch of leading Gen AI search and learning experiences and focus on building responsible capabilities, including those for image, video, and agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI), to make the potential of Gen AI a reality. You will deliver a defining product safety strategy, providing holistic insights on risks and opportunities, and analyzing and developing mitigations to drive decisions. You will work alongside product, engineering, and policy teams to proactively understand risk, detect harm patterns, develop applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions to manage novel trust problems, and define industry best practices for evolving Gen AI experiences.

A team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Analyze data to derive insights for identifying and fighting abuse across products. Apply technical judgment to drive project delivery, issue proposals, and identify risks. Develop datasets and run evaluations for engineers to improve Search and Learning Gen AI products.
  • Enhance operational workflows via process improvements and identification of automation opportunities. Establish metrics to benchmark Gen AI issues in the Learning space and quantify improvements.
  • Improve classifiers and base model level safety through data analysis and technical expertise, and gain consensus from key stakeholders.
  • Debug escalations and analyze trends to identify significant product risks. Manage interdependent technical projects against accelerated timelines.
  • Perform on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis, including weekend coverage. Work with sensitive content or situations and potentially be exposed to graphic, controversial, or upsetting topics or content.
