Software Engineering Manager II, Cloud Interconnect Networking

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience with networking technologies such as Software Defined Networks, DNS, Software Load Balancers or Content Delivery Networks.
  • 3 years of experience working in a changing organization.
  • Experience building Cloud products and leading teams of engineers.
  • Experience understanding and addressing user needs.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, set clear priorities, and establish success metrics to track progress.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Cloud Interconnect enables Hybrid Cloud Connectivity, linking enterprise networks to GCP over high-speed, low-latency connections. The team builds and operates the system which virtualizes Google's edge network to allow enterprises to connect their on-premises data centers to GCP. The team also develops ultra-low-latency interconnects for partners and third-party data stores located near Google data centers. In this role, you will manage systems through cloud virtualization, facing exciting scaling challenges with growth and multi-year projects.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive management and ownership for a team within Cloud Interconnect, including developing and sharing the team's roadmap.
  • Define and shape the charters for various teams, establishing processes that ensure predictable execution and engineering excellence across Cloud Interconnect.
  • Leverage Networking, Cloud, or distributed systems to guide strategic decisions and team development.
  • Lead team scaling and process deployment, with an initial focus on management responsibilities that will evolve to include technical contributions.
  • Drive improvement and engineering excellence through established processes and a clear strategic idea.
