Product Quality Engineer, Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, product engineering of server infrastructure, storage or networking hardware.
  • Experience in statistical product quality control (e.g., SPC), reliability modeling, and the execution of failure analysis and DFX principles during the hardware development life-cycle.
  • Experience leading New Product Introduction (NPI) cycles.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams using a practical and solution-oriented approach.
  • Experience with manufacturing and field issues debug, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Experience with scripting languages and SQL.
  • Experience with advanced statistical (or statistics based) methodologies (e.g., design of experiments, statistical process controls, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Ability to present technical data to executive audiences.

Your team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google's powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you're right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google's infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google's infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the end-to-end quality and reliability strategy for Google's hardware across its entire life-cycle, from design through field support.
  • Lead the resolution of systemic quality issues in manufacturing and the field, driving Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) using structured methodologies.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to influence design specifications, qualification plans, and test coverage to ensure product mitigate early risks.
  • Establish and monitor key quality KPIs. Analyze manufacturing and field data to develop predictive models and drive continuous improvement in design and processes.
  • Act as the primary point for customer quality, managing escalations and integrating feedback. Oversee quality and corrective actions with suppliers, including Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) analysis and Process Change Notification (PCN) qualification.
