Vice President, General Manager, Google Pay and Wallet

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, other technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of professional experience leading engineering and product teams for an organization.
  • 10 years of experience leading efforts in payment systems and platforms, including digital wallets, mobile payments, and other emerging payment technologies.
  • Experience leading global teams of 300+.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience navigating complex organizational environments, partnering with senior leads to develop shared goals.
  • Experience in consumer-focused product development and understanding in-depth customer/user requirements.
  • Ability to set and drive the “big picture” strategy while also having the capability to provide detailed technical guidance to the team, enabling them to execute more effectively and deliver products on time and within budget.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate teams to work as a cohesive, highly productive unit.

About the job

The Payments team is seeking a strategic, highly experienced and results-oriented VP, General Manager who will drive the development, strategy, and execution of our GPay & Wallet team. You will lead an organization and build scalable services across our platforms. This role is pivotal in integrating GPay functionalities across various platforms, including Chrome and Android, with a primary focus on the Wallet as the central delivery surface. You'll be instrumental in expanding the reach of GPay's Person-to-Merchant (P2M) transactions, both online (Real-Time Payments) and offline (via Wallet). A key aspect of this role involves leading the Wallet organization, steering its continued growth, and ensuring its widespread availability and adoption of its core features. This includes innovating the next-generation Wallet experience, making strategic investments, and seamlessly integrating Wallet features across Google's product ecosystem to enhance user experience.

Whether it is paying online with Autofill, using tap and pay in stores, or using the Google Pay app, the Payments team at Google is focused on making payments simple, seamless, and secure. In addition to consumer payment technologies, the Payments team also powers the money movement between Google and its consumers and businesses.

The US base salary for this full-time position is $550,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the comprehensive vision, direction, and strategy for both GPay and Wallet, encompassing both short-term initiatives and long-term growth. Identify key market opportunities and drive innovation across all product areas.
  • Lead and inspire dedicated Engineering and Product Management teams for GPay and Wallet, while effectively influencing multiple contributing teams across critical product areas (Android, Core, Chrome, and Consumer UX). This also includes strong cross-functional collaboration with teams like PR, Marketing, Legal, and Privacy.
  • Inspire product and engineering teams to innovate, invent, implement and deploy complex software solutions in a commercial, mission-critical environment. 
  • Provide strategic leadership in identifying and pursuing new global payment partnerships and opportunities to significantly expand both the GPay and Wallet businesses.
  • Establish and maintain key relationships with payment industry stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, payment providers, and financial institutions.
