Engineering Manager, SSD Storage

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with Linux Kernel, Operating Systems, Embedded Systems.
  • Experience with software development life-cycle (SDLC), software release management (SRM), or feature planning and prioritization.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience with technologies such as virtualization and software infrastructure systems, compute, storage, data migration, capacity, load balancing, and software defined networking.
  • Experience in systems that connect directly to storage devices (e.g., Solid State Drives (SSD), Hard Disk Drives (HDD).
  • Familiarity with SSDs, NAND flash, embedded software, storage protocols and security.
  • Demonstrated expertise in solving complex system issues and technical innovation, capable of "rolling up the sleeves and getting hands dirty".

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

As a part of the Platforms Storage, you will be responsible for building storage solutions for all of Google's services (e.g., AI/ML Systems, Cloud, Search, Photos, YouTube etc.). You will design and develop the platform's software and solutions for NAND flash, Solid State Drives (SSDs), storage appliances, and next-generation disruptive storage technologies. You will develop firmware, kernel drivers, system software, tools and security solutions optimized for Google’s services. You will develop qualification frameworks, solutions and processes working jointly with our vendors, and will be responsible for maintaining and ensuring supply for all the flash in Google’s fleet.Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. US: $207000 - $301000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + bonus + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers to deliver against the Platform Infrastructure and Engines (PIE) roadmap, focusing on planning, execution, and quality.
  • Gather requirements with the larger team, understand high level architecture and collaborate with executive developers across the team on design, while engaging closely with stakeholders (client team, QA, and program management) to provide status, iterative releases, and make design decisions throughout the development.
  • Manage budget, resources, and tooling planning to deliver against the roadmap.
  • Drive all aspects of the development including requirements definition, design, implementation, unit testing, and integration, while overseeing detailed designs, implementation, and test plan reviews to ensure high quality deliverables.
  • Orchestrate the evaluation of new storage component technology, drivers, health monitors, and supporting tools for Data Center (DC) needs.
