Senior Interconnect Research and Development Engineer, Quantum AI

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in characterizing the performance, reliability, and yield of electronics or interconnect hardware.
  • 6 years of process engineering or manufacturing experience in semiconductor and interconnect technologies such as photolithography, thin film deposition, electroplating and dry/wet etching and PCB or connector manufacturing.
  • 6 years of experience in electrical connectors, Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), semiconductors advanced packaging including design, development, and testing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).

Google Quantum AI’s team mission is to make useful quantum computing tools available to the world to enable humankind to solve problems that would otherwise be impossible. Quantum AI is building novel systems that can leverage quantum mechanics to outperform the world's largest computers at certain classes of problems. This role focuses on researching, developing, and testing advanced interconnect technologies for cryogenic microwave devices and quantum processors.

In this role, you will be responsible for the entire life-cycle, from initial Research and Development (R&D) and process fabrication to creating test plans and transferring the new technologies to larger scale manufacturing.The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$258,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Research and Develop advanced interconnect and connector technologies for integrating cryogenic microwave devices and quantum processor components, leveraging expertise in electrical connectors, silicon, 3D-integration, and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS).
  • Create and execute comprehensive test plans to assess connector performance, including achievable signal density, electrical, mechanical, and thermal performance, as well as manufacturing yield and reliability.
  • Develop, characterize, and tool new fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly processes, determining their technical capabilities and limits while researching, specifying, and purchasing all necessary equipment for development and production.
  • Author documentation and transfer newly developed processes, ensuring a successful hand-off to in-house manufacturing teams or external production partners.
  • Collaborate with internal Google Quantum AI teams, as well as academic and industrial partners, to jointly develop and prove-out advanced connector and interconnect technologies.
