Manager II, Silicon Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with silicon development programs including research, algorithm development, digital and physical design, implementation, verification, bring-up or post-silicon maintenance.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • Experience leading projects using High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tools and methodologies, such as Vivado HLS and Catapult.
  • Experience leading machine learning research and development projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record of leading research and development of silicon algorithms and execution of silicon programs.

Drive research and development of cost effective codecs and ML models, and the design of custom low-power accelerator architectures implementing these novel approaches in silicon. The team works with industry leaders across YouTube, Google, industry partners, and academia. The accelerators are deployed in Google’s data center video compression chips used by YouTube, Drive, Photos, and Meet. We are also active contributors in the Alliance for Open Media (AOM) developing the next generation video codec standard, AV2.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $183,000-$271,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers researching and developing solutions for YouTube’s planet-scale video infrastructure.
  • Manage hardware related interactions with the external AOM standards organization.
  • Lead the development codecs and machine learning models to be applied in Google hardware infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Technical Infrastructure to create ASICs and deploy them in data centers.
  • Work closely with key stakeholder teams in YouTube and Google and at various research organizations, and participate in dreaming up next generation innovations that we can accelerate in the data centers.
