Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
- 3 years of experience in testing, maintaining or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- 3 years of experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) concepts, algorithms, and experience in designing NLP solutions.
- 3 years of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging).
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
- Experience in developing accessible technologies.
- Experience with data analysis, techniques to detect abusive patterns, outliers, sentiment, plagiarism, brigading, etc.
- Experience in content moderation.

In this role, the Conversation-ArtificiaI Intelligence (AI) team's goal is to protect voices in online conversation. We design and build innovative user experiences to explore how our models can help humans have better conversations. We also publish original research to advance the state-of-the-art in using Machine Learning (ML) to support good online discussion.
Jigsaw is a unit within Google that explores threats to open societies and builds technology that inspires scalable solutions. Our team addresses a range of global security challenges including defending against digital attacks, mitigating the rise of online hate and harassment, countering extremism, and fighting censorship. Jigsaw offers mission-driven work within a nimble interdisciplinary team, connections to academia and civil society, and a quick path to taking technology public.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Interest in improving online discussions and desire to have an impact.
- Analyze Machine Learning foundations with an open mind and how Large Language Models are changing and complicating the landscape.
- Design solutions to ambiguous problems with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Bring Machine Learning systems into production.
- Guide academic research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning.
