Staff Software Engineer, Calibration and Spatial Sensing

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of experience with computer vision (such as image classification and processing, object detection, visual search), video generation, or signal processing; and experience with various algorithms and design techniques.
  • 5 years of experience leading to machine learning design and optimizing machine learning infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).
  • Experience with stakeholder management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with sensor fusion.
  • Experience with image processing.
  • Experience with estimation.

The Google Augmented Reality Team’s mission is to give people abilities by making information instantly and intuitively accessible. The Calibration and Spatial Sensing team is responsible for the technology that enables devices to track and understand their surroundings using on-board sensors in real-time for the AR ecosystem and Alphabet-wide applications. We work in the research-to-product space, going 0-to-1 on foundational visual-inertial fusion for odometry, localization, mapping, along with calibration, image processing for tracking, and novel applications of machine learning at the intersection of investigative and data-driven modeling. Furthermore, working alongside a group of perception researchers and engineers, we push the boundaries of how these technologies can support AR experiences, driving ideation and development cross-functionally to chart the future capabilities needed by our AR devices.Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects. Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Develop next generation components within spatial sensing and calibration for the Augmented Reality (AR) Team.
  • Work with stakeholders to define requirements and drive algorithmic design and implementation.
  • Initiate, contribute, or lead new research collaborations with partner teams to deliver novel technical components solving the toughest challenges facing consumer augmented reality devices on commodity hardware.
