About the job

The AI for Large Scale Systems (AILS) team in Core Data aims to transform the design, development, and operation of large-scale infrastructure systems through the innovative application of Artificial Intelligence.

Our mission is to leverage AI to address key issues in building and maintaining large, complex software systems. This includes dramatically improving AI-assisted code generation, especially within Google's extensive and intricate codebases where knowing where to even begin is a challenge. We are also focused on using AI to enhance code quality, improve system reliability, and deepen our understanding of system behavior. We aim to build tools and agents that assist engineers in producing correct, well-tested, bug-free, and maintainable code, as well as in operating these systems effectively.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.
