Staff Software Engineer, Storage, Google Cloud Platform

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • Experience testing and launching software products, and with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience in designing and implementing large-scale file systems or distributed storage systems.
  • Ability to lead storage technologies and products.

The File Solutions team provides a set of fully managed file services for Enterprise and High Performance Computing (HPC) and AI/ML customers addressing workloads such as SAP, stateful GKE applications, Fintech, Life Sciences, etc.

The team facilitates seamless migration to cloud, hybrid cloud solutions, and seamless integration with other File solutions and GCP solutions and services.

The team goal is to be the authoritative one stop shop for all file solutions in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) serving large-scale strategic customers, and managing hundreds of customer data, while maintaining the highest performance, scale, reliability, usability, quality, and observability as well as ownership of the whole file portfolio, whether built from the ground up internally or via integration with third-party and open source technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Drive the technical direction, roadmap and detailed planning alongside the engineering manager.
  • Design and architect scalable, resilient, and performance distributed file system backend for Filestore.
  • Define and monitor quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensure production best practices are met (Service level objectives (SLOs), Service level indicators (SLIs), monitoring, alerts, mitigations, etc.), tech debts are addressed, and architecture is reliable and robust and meets google standards for a 1P managed service.
