International Government Affairs Manager, Government Affairs and Public Policy

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience working on the Asia Pacific and Latin America within government, private sector, think tanks or relevant industry associations.
  • Experience identifying geopolitical risks and developing mitigation strategies to protect business interests.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with legal departments and other relevant teams to assess and respond to regulatory inquiries and other government investigations.
  • Experience working with international teams and a variety of stakeholders, and in executing strategies to deliver exceptional solutions.
  • Knowledge of public policy issues, processes, and institutions, and tech policy issues.
  • Ability to proactively prioritize and seamlessly multi-task.
  • Excellent problem-solving, verbal and written communication skills, and high attention to detail.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. The International Government Affairs (IGA) team focuses on building relationships with foreign policy leaders to advance global tech policy. The IGA team supports the company in pursuing business development opportunities and resolving global policy issues. The IGA team's expertise is structured in two ways: Regional Specialists engage with Washington, DC-based stakeholders to address policy issues that affect Google's operations in specific regions around the world; and International Organization Leads direct Google's engagement with key international bodies such as the United Nations, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and others. We're dedicated to fostering dialogue and finding solutions that benefit both Google and the global communities we serve.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $138,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Partner with Google’s local leads based in the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions, identifying and executing on opportunities in Washington DC that support local government policy and business priorities.
  • Advise regional policy leads, product leads, and other internal cross-functional partners on public policy and engagement strategies for DC-based campaigns on key policy topics; and geopolitical risks related to business decisions and escalations tied to Asia Pacific and Latin America countries.
  • Serve as a thought partner and advisor for executive leadership, collaborating on business development initiatives and programs to ensure consistency with Google positions on geopolitical risk.
  • Manage Google’s participation in major bilateral and regional summits. Design programs and drive impact from participation of executive Google executives.
  • Liaise directly with regional Google Cloud colleagues to advance and unlock Cloud priorities in the aforementioned countries.
