Mechanical Manufacturing Manager II

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in manufacturing sheet metal products or electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • 3 years of experience in people management and organizational leadership.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience with product data management systems and 3D CAD modeling tools.
  • Experience developing technical relationships with global Contract Manufacturers (CM).
  • Experience leading Manufacturing Engineering teams for Hardware development.
  • Understanding of precision sheet metal fabrication processes (e.g., NC punching, press brake forming, hardware insertion processes), hard tooling fabrication processes (e.g., metal stamping), plastic injection molding processes, and electro-mechanical assembly.

As a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer Manager in the Cloud Supply Chain Organization (CSCO), you will lead the team responsible for providing manufacturing support and guidance for Google Cloud's Hardware products. You will launch new products in Contract Manufacturer (CM), Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), and Joint Development (JDM) environments. For the Cloud products, you will deliver advanced mechanical manufacturing engineering and Design for Excellence (DFx) expertise through the leadership of your team. Google's custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you and the team influence the early product designs to ensure scalability and create the processes, tools, and procedures to build these hardware platforms that form the foundation of Google’s search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you are right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together and keep the systems functioning along for an uninterrupted user experience.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000-$245,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (MME) experts to deliver Cloud Hardware to the customers.
  • Lead and mentor the team's technical and professional growth to support business needs and their personal goals through transparent communications and documented plans.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships with cross-functional leaders of Engineering, Project Management, Commodity Management, Deployment and Quality organizations, representing the Manufacturing Engineering Function.
  • Inform and lead organizational and business transformations to enhance operational capability and predictability of the Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Contribute to the advancement of the Technical Operations Community through participation in various organizational development activities.
