Principal UX Program Manager, Google Cloud AI UX

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in program management, business operations, or a similar role within a UX, product, or engineering organization.
  • Experience working with and managing the needs of UX disciplines (e.g., interaction design, UX research, content strategy, UX engineering).

Preferred qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience leading complex strategic and operational initiatives for large, distributed product and design teams.
  • Experience building a design ops or research ops function from the ground up or significantly scaling one in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and rapidly growing environment.
  • Experience with strategy planning, financial modeling, and operational excellence, with an ability to turn high-level strategy into a concrete operational plan.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to act as a trusted advisor and partner to senior design, product, and engineering executives.

The Google Cloud AI UX team is at the center of the most significant shift in a generation, designing the products and platforms - from Vertex AI to Gemini Enterprise - that will define the future of business. We are the architects of the AI-native enterprise, and our team of product designers, UX researchers, and UX engineers is dedicated to making AI helpful, scalable, and trusted for all our customers.

As a Principal UX Program Manager and a foundational member of our new Design Operations function, you will be the operational and strategic backbone for the entire Cloud AI UX organization. Partnering directly with the Head of Design for Cloud AI, you will architect the systems, drive the strategy, and build the culture that enables an exceptional, multi-disciplinary UX team to do its most impactful work.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $267,000-$376,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and lead the organizational operating model, processes, and systems that will enable our UX team to deliver bold, high-quality work at scale.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Head of Design and their leadership team. Drive strategic planning, investment decisions, and goal-setting for the UX organization, ensuring tight alignment with product, engineering, and go-to-market partners.
  • Lead annual and quarterly headcount planning, financial forecasting, and resource allocation for the entire Google Cloud AI UX organization. Develop sophisticated models for team growth, location strategy, and discipline ratios. 
  • Define and implement the core toolset, budget, and vendor management strategy for the UX team. Ensure we have the right infrastructure to maximize design quality and efficiency. 
  • Foster a thriving, connected, and inclusive design culture. Create and lead programs that elevate design craft.
