Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of professional experience in software development
  • Experience in AI platforms, AI Infrastructure, or Applied ML to solve problems

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or other Engineering discipline
  • 20 years of professional experience in software development
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional programs from design through deployment and production operations
  • Technical expertise and leadership skills to influence technical leaders across the company and guide teams through critical, complex technical challenges
  • Deep technical expertise in ML infrastructure, ML developer tooling, or Large Language Models (LLMs)

About the job

We are searching for a highly motivated and experienced Distinguished Engineer to establish and drive the deep technical design and implementation of Search's ambitious Agentic solution in AI Mode. This pivotal role will focus on architecting a highly complex, scalable, and novel solution that will redefine Google's flagship product.

You will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI at Google by leading one of its most critical new initiatives. You will be responsible for exercising demonstrated judgment on short- and long-term tradeoffs, enabling the team to find product-market fit rapidly while simultaneously building for long-term scalability and extensibility.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $349,000-$485,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end technical design, architecture, and implementation of Search's Agentic solution in AI Mode.
  • Drive the technical vision and roadmap, balancing rapid experimentation and iteration with the development of a scalable, long-term architecture.
  • Lead complex programs and drive technical solutions across numerous Google teams, including Search, GDM, Core ML, and other AI product areas.
  • Lead in-depth architecture and designs, providing technical guidance to engineering teams and helping to resolve the most complex technical discussions.
  • Partner with leads from Google's core AI and ML infrastructure teams to define requirements, identify gaps, and accelerate the transition of research innovations to production.
