Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of work experience in tech, policy, or risk mitigation.
  • Experience leading global teams, working across multiple regions.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partner teams and delivering on user centric initiatives.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building and managing payment fraud detection systems and processes, with a focus on minimizing financial losses while optimizing customer experience.
  • Experience with fraud detection tools and technologies, creating or supporting rule-based systems, machine learning models, and real-time transaction monitoring.
  • Experience leading cross-functionally, executive communication skills to partner effectively with senior stakeholders and a proven ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Deep understanding of current fraud trends, risk assessment techniques, and industry best practices related to fraud prevention. Familiarity with various payment methods and their associated fraud risks.

Our Trust and Safety team has the critical responsibility of protecting Google's users by ensuring online safety by fighting web abuse and fraud across Google products like Search, Maps, AdWords and AdSense. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic leader. As the Director for Payments Risk, you'll define the vision and strategy, enable deep analytical and operational excellence, and cultivate a strong team culture by growing operational leaders for tomorrow. You understand the user's point of view and are passionate about using your combined analytical, strategic and core business acumen to protect our users and solve problems - and enable our large and global team to do the same. You work cross-functionally with Google Engineers and Product Managers to navigate challenging online safety situations and manage abuse and fraud cases efficiently, in a dynamic environment.

You ensure trust and reputation not only for the Payments products, but also for Google as a broader brand and company. You are a strategic leader who possesses the ability to work globally and cross-functionally with many internal stakeholders through effective relationship building, influence and communication.

The Trust and Safety team reduces risk and protects the experience of our users and business partners in more than 40 languages and across Google's expanding base of products. We work with a variety of teams from Engineering to Legal, Public Policy and Sales Engineering to set policies and combat fraud and abuse in a scalable way, often with an eye to finding industry-wide solutions. Trust and Safety team members are motivated to find innovative solutions, and use technical know-how, user insights and proactive communication to pursue the highest possible quality and safety standards for users across Google products.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $240,000-$345,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Manage abuse prevention, risk assessment, mitigation and enforcement on policies and guidelines for Payments products and all Google products accepting online payments. 
  • Work closely with a global team to drive operational excellence including escalation management, partnership with internal and external stakeholders, defining of metrics, strategic planning and development for the team. 
  • Focus on customer experience and user outcomes, and drive strategic abuse and fraud prevention solutions and scaled enforcement through automation and innovation, enabling AI/ML technologies to scale, building strong analyst teams, partnering with senior executive stakeholders and information advocacy during challenging times. 
  • Be the trusted leader with ability to pivot in a fast paced environment, coordinating and providing a consolidated view of risks and mitigations across the various pillars from launch (policy, testing, features) through product lifecycle to the cross-functional group and leadership.
