Manufacturing Business Manager, Phones and Hearables

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Experience with finance and analytics, cost modeling, and negotiation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technical or engineering field or MBA.
  • 10 years of experience in sourcing, hardware manufacturing, or business operations and knowledge of factory operations.
  • Experience leading or managing Contract Manufacturers and Original Design Manufacturers at the product/device level.
  • Knowledge of different manufacturing models: Original Device Manufacturer (ODM), Joint Design Manufacturing Model (JDM), or Contract Manufacturing (CM) frameworks.
  • Ability to build supplier partnerships and manage supplier performance along with excellent leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed (upto 20% of the time).

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

In this role, you will lead the sourcing, business award, and business discussions with external manufacturing partners for the assigned projects. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining partnerships that enable and improve the Pixel hardware portfolio.

You will collaborate with Sourcing colleagues, Program Management, Engineering, Operations, Planning, Finance, Legal and other teams to develop partnership strategies and establish program execution plans with our manufacturing partners. You will then manage the partnership framework from start to finish by engaging with potential partners, building consensus with executives, discussing all costs and agreements, and ensuring that manufacturing partners deliver results.Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Responsibilities

  • Define appropriate business model engagement strategy for assigned programs. Lead the creation and execution of Request For (X) (RFx) packages and program award recommendations. Implement supplier management plans with selected partners to ensure alignment with performance expectations.
  • Discuss all aspects of business engagement including manufacturing value add (MVA) and selected component Bill of materials (BOM) costs, and financial claims incurred throughout the program life cycle.
  • Improve costs by collaborating with internal teams and manufacturing partners to rationalize manufacturing and technical requirements. Generate ideas to drive down cost and ensure supply.
  • Manage partners to meet program requirements in terms of cost, quality, resources, schedule, capacity, and technology.
  • Serve as point-of-contact for issues that cross-functional teams encounter when working with the manufacturing partner.
