Staff Technical Solutions Engineer, Wi-Fi Standards

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 13 years of experience in wireless communication protocols.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11) technology and standards.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience participating and contributing to the standards development process, ideally in a leadership role; authoring, presenting, and defending technical contributions and proposals within these forums (eg, IEEE 802.11, the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA), IETF)
  • Knowledge of current and emerging Wi-Fi standards, such as: Wi-Fi 6/6E (802.11ax), Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), and Legacy standards (802.11a/b/g/n/ac).
  • Understanding of wireless communication protocols, and multi-device current and emerging Wi-Fi technologies, such as: Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Direct R2, Wi-Fi Aware.

Our team is building the next generation Android Wi-Fi features and frameworks to unlock novel experiences within the Android ecosystem and Pixel devices. Our goal is to enable First-Party (1P) and Third-Party (3P) Android devices across the ecosystem to have connectivity to the internet as well as to each other. Our teams focus is on providing seamless connectivity using latest edge Wi-Fi technologies and delivering key experiences for our users. As Staff Technical Solutions Engineer, Wi-Fi Standards, you will lead and influence the Wi-Fi technology in the Android platform and influence the whole ecosystem across 1P and 3P products.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $171,000-$254,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead new features and technologies within the Wi-Fi Standards through interaction with Google teams, industry leaders, and standard organizations.
  • Collaborate with both internal, external and partner teams to refine and define the Wi-Fi requirements and scaling it to the industry.
  • Help build the next generation technologies for 1P and 3P devices.
  • Partner and collaborate with related engineering teams, product management, and program management to ensure the development of high-quality solutions in timely manner.
  • Unlock novel experiences and use cases for users in the Android ecosystem.
