About the job

Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes way beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

As the Software Engineering Manager for Enterprise Data Protection in Singapore, you will be the foundational lead for a new security team. You will act as a technical leader to hire and manage security engineers to establish our security engineering function. You will coordinate with peers in Enterprise Data Protection's software engineering team to achieve our risk reduction goals. You will lead and have the ability to drive security engineering outcomes, build and lead effective security teams, and foster a collaborative environment to achieve collective goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers to implement holistic security controls across all systems at Google that process or store our intellectual property.
  • Work with a wide variety of cross-functional roles within Core or Privacy, Safety & Security (PSS) and with stakeholders in our Product Areas (PAs) to implement controls that prevent or reduce the risk of data ex-filtration events.
  • Define the security requirements for the next generation of security controls that are context aware and help mitigate the risk of Google's increased use of agentic AI.
  • Partner with security engineers within Enterprise Data Protection to define requirements for the systems and infrastructure needed to achieve our data protection goals, including AI-based classification systems.
  • Build a team in Singapore that has excellent culture and engineering standards.
