AI/ML Software Engineer, Google Home Video Intelligence

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio (e.g., technology duplicating and responding to the human voice), reinforcement learning (e.g., sequential decision making), ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.
  • 1 year of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, and debugging).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or in related technical fields.
  • 2 years of software development experience applying ML concepts and techniques.
  • Experience in developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience in at least one programming language commonly used in ML (e.g., Python, C++) and with relevant ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Understanding of fundamental data structures and algorithms, and their application in designing and optimizing ML models.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, and a foundational understanding of ML evaluation metrics.

In this role, you will design the models and algorithms that power the AI features for the cameras. From models performing on-device scene understanding to advanced Gemini models aiding rich event descriptions and information retrieval.

You are at the intersection of research and product, where you will not only work with ML, but also deploy and experiment across millions of devices and users.

The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write product or system development code. 
  • Implement solutions in one or more specialized Machine Learning (ML) areas, utilize ML infrastructure, and contribute to model optimization and data processing.
  • Apply state of the art ML, and generative models to improve the video understanding quality.
  • Work on various efficiency projects/models to reduce the TPU utilization.
  • Improve information retrieval and reasoning system that powers Search.
