Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of working experience in device fabrication or failure analysis in semiconductor fabrication field in a cleanroom environment.
- Experience with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD in Materials Science, Physical Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or cross-trained related fields.
- 5 years of working experience in device fabrication or failure analysis in semiconductor fabrication field in a cleanroom environment.
- Experience in automating workflows for production.
- Experience with data analysis software, process control, and SOP writing.
- Problem solving ability with good communications and presentation skills.

Google Quantum AI's mission is to build and unlock solutions to problems, and the team's roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications. As a Failure Analysis Engineer on the Metrology and Characterization team, you will bring your electron microscopy experience to help perform failure analysis and characterize the fabrication process using state-of-the-art characterization techniques. You will also be comfortable with developing prototype characterization, and fabrication techniques and running, maintaining, and stabilizing the process flow and equipment. This role is crucial to our success as we continue to improve the performance, coherence, and reliability of our devices.
Responsibilities
- Support new process development, including recipe creation and test plan development with stakeholders.
- Develop automation procedures to optimize and streamline workflows.
- Support steady-state failure analysis work requests.
- Maintain equipment and process uptime, create and maintain documentation.
- Collaborate with external vendors on outsourced analyses (e.g., TEM-EDS/EELS, PED), providing process expertise for parameter setting and data interpretation.
