About the job
Battery life and thermals are one of the key aspects of a phone's performance when it comes to user satisfaction. The Wireless Systems power team drives strategic initiatives to reduce the modem's contribution to battery life and thermals. As part of the team, you will influence, drive and work with the latest cellular modems for Pixel phones and Wearables. You will propose new features and develop/improve algorithms in order to achieve power and performance. In the process, you will have the opportunity to interact with software and hardware teams working across all layers from the hardware and Physical Layer Device (PHY) layers to Android. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the team's strategic goals and technical roadmap, driving innovation in key areas such as Radio Resource Management (RRM), out-of-service (OOS) recovery, thermal mitigation strategies, and advanced antenna algorithms.
- Drive the architectural design and evolution of the modem power management system. You will oversee optimizations across the full stack, from RF front-end behavior and L1/L2/L3 protocol procedures to interactions with the application processor.
- Setting priorities for new algorithm development, log analysis infrastructure, and methodologies for lab and live network performance validation.
- Collaborate with and influence cross-functional partners in System Architecture, Product Management, and other hardware/software teams to align on system design and deliver end-to-end product impact.
- Lead and mentor the team, providing deep technical guidance on complex cellular power/performance challenges and fostering a data-driven culture of engineering excellence.
